A home for Christmas!

Kathy Jones closed on her renovated home on Broad St. just in time to begin decorating for Christmas. A day after she closed, festive decorations celebrating the season were already showing up on her front porch – confirmation that she loves her new home!

As a long time Children’s Ministry Director at First Presbyterian Church, and a teacher at Heritage Academy, Kathy has made such a difference in children’s lives over the years. In the same way, we know that she is going to be an asset to Harrisburg. She already volunteers to transport kids to the Boys and Girls Club in the neighborhood, and has communicated that she wants her home to be a safe haven for children.

Welcome Home Kathy! We are so glad to have you!!!

Wells Fargo Housing Foundation

Turn Back The Block and CSRA Economic Opportunity Authority, Inc. were presented with a $140,000 check from the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation on December 2nd. The Priority Market grant award will support not only new, affordable home ownership opportunities through Turn Back The Block, but will also provide a means for existing homeowners in Harrisburg who are elderly and disabled to maintain their homes via home repair from CSRA EOA, Inc. Thank you Wells Fargo Housing Foundation!

Partner Spotlight – Dalzell Design Landscaping

Regularly on WAFJ 88.3 I hear Dalzell Design Landscaping mentioned. Considering that they are business ministry partner of our local Christian radio station, I reasoned that the company might identify with our mission and be willing to help us in Harrisburg. Boy, did I get more than I bargained for! Owner, William Dalzell, took the initiative to contact me after receiving the letter and agreed to meet me for a tour of our newest home at 627 Metcalf St. What I thought might turn into a donation of a few plants for landscaping turned into so much more. Mr. Dalzell agreed to donate the grading of the lot, and worked with vendors to get herbicide, sod, mulch, and plants donated. Our September 24th, everything was delivered to the site and volunteers helped lay sod and plant the landscape material. It looks amazing. Thank you Dalzell Design Landscaping, Turf Masters of Augusta, Site One, and Carolina Fresh Farms!!!

We have a warehouse in the works!

Turn Back The Block is seeking sponsors for the rehabilitation of 1924 Battle Row. This property, which once housed a neighborhood business, was donated to our organization and will be used as a warehouse. A new roof and several interior repairs will be necessary before the building is fully functional.

The warehouse’s location is centralized within Harrisburg, just two blocks from our current worksite. At over 3700 square feet, it will allow ample and secure storage for the items that are donated for our construction efforts.

Many thanks to Queensborough National Bank & Trust for being the first to contribute to the rehabilitation efforts of this project. Please consider joining them by making a donation today!
