Hope House will be volunteering with us on June 3rd from 8:00 a.m to noon. They will be painting two sheds at our newest homes at 2010 and 2012 Battle Row and doing yard work at some of our properties. If you’d like to join in the fun, please e-mail us at www.turnbacktheblock.com
Turn Back the Block and various churches, civic organizations, and community groups worked together to clean up the streets of Harrisburg on April 29th at the 6th annual Harrisburg Clean & Green. By the end of the event, we collected over 188 tires, filled a huge dumpster to the brim with litter, and accomplished some great work at the Harrisburg Community Garden and Crawford Ave. Baptist Church. Many neighborhood children participated in the clean-up, and new neighbors became acquainted with each other. These Facebook comments sum up the success of the day well:
“Awesome day! Do not know when I have enjoyed a Saturday morning so much. Thanks organizers.”
“Best Clean and Green ever!”
On April 27th, volunteers from Bank of America helped us get our newest home move-in ready. Last year they were digging the foundation for the home at 627 Metcalf St., and this month they helped with final clean up. They even got to join in on a fun phone call with the homeowner candidate (whom we just approved for ownership the day prior), to gave him the news that he was accepted as the new owner for the home!
Trinity On The Hill United Methodist Church is hosting a weekend celebration of their local, national and international missions efforts on Feb 3rd – 5th. Their “Hands Day” will include a work project with Turn Back The Block on February 4th. Trinity UMC members will be helping us clean out a home on Perkins St. in preparation for future redevelopment.
